The length of time that Botox takes to work depends on the area being treated and the dosage used. For example, Botox can take anywhere from three to eight days for patients to notice results. For areas such as the glabella (the area between your eyebrows) and crow’s feet, it may take only three days for results. It may take up to eight days for more advanced areas, such as the forehead and frown lines.
The results will also depend on how quickly your body metabolizes Botox and how much product is injected into a given area. The best way to know when your Botox is ready for use is by scheduling a follow-up appointment with your physician.
What is Botox?
BOTOX is an FDA-approved cosmetic treatment that uses a purified form of botulinum toxin A (the same toxin used to make Botox injections) to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines). BOTOX Cosmetic is for improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe horizontal forehead lines and/or vertical glabellar lines.
BOTOX is a purified protein that is injected into muscles and temporarily blocks the signals that cause muscles to contract. BOTOX can be used to smooth moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults younger than 65 years of age for a period of up to 4 months.
BOTOX Cosmetic is approved for the temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines associated with corrugator and/or procerus muscles in adults younger than 65 years.

How Botox works
BOTOX works by temporarily relaxing muscles in the upper face, which allows you to achieve a smoother, more youthful appearance. When injected into the muscle under your skin, it helps relax the muscle so that it’s easier for you to naturally smile or raise your brows.
The effects can last up to 4 months per treatment but may vary depending on your body’s response and how much time has passed since your last treatment. If you have concerns about how long treatment will last, consult with your doctor about whether BOTOX could be right for you.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE BOTOX TO START WORKING?
A common question we hear from patients is “how long does it take Botox to work?” or “when does Botox start working?” and our answer is “usually about 3 days.” The reason for this delay is that Botox takes a few days to get into the muscle and start relaxing it. Once in the muscle, Botox needs time to bind to the nerves and block the signal from being sent to the muscles so that the muscle won’t contract.
Botox works differently than other fillers because it’s injected directly into muscles, where it blocks nerve impulses that cause wrinkles. This means that the effects are immediate — there’s no waiting period while Botox reaches deep within the dermis or hypodermis (the second layer of skin).
Binding of the neurotoxin to a nerve can take anywhere from 1-3 weeks depending on how fast your body breaks down Botox after injection. If your body breaks down Botox quickly, you may require more frequent injections. If your body breaks down Botox slowly, you may only need injections every 4 months or longer. Within 24 hours of injection, you should see some improvement in lines, especially emotional lines like frown lines, crow’s feet, etc. It will take several weeks for these lines to completely disappear however. Looking at all of these factors, we typically say that it will take anywhere from 3-6 weeks for wrinkles to fully relax with Botox treatment with improvements seen within 2-3 days. This timeline varies widely between individuals and there are no guarantees as everyone is different!
